Willow Class

Willow Class 2019/20
Welcome to Willow Class web page!
Here you will find photographs with captions of all the activities and  learning we have been doing at school.

A big welcome to the new children and their families who have started in their Reception year. They have settled in beautifully and should be really proud of themselves! Also thank you to the Year 1's for being such super role models!
In Willow class this week we have been celebrating Diwali. We started preparations before half term making coloured rice which we then used to create Rangoli patterns. We also made Divas moulded from clay and then painted them in vibrant colours. We experiment with Mehndi patterns which we added to outlines of our hands. We printed elephants using our handprints and decorated them with jewels and sequins. Finally we made Indian sweets from prunes, condensed milk, ground almonds and desicated coconut. We finished of the celebration with a banquet of the sweets, pompadoms, naan bread and mango chutney; lit our candles in our Divas (which we carefully blew out at the end!) whilst listening to some Indian music! We learnt that this is an important festival for Hindus and the importance of the story of Rama and Sita in this celebration.
The Year 1 children have been reading, ordering, estimating and counting amounts of objects to 20.
Class 1 2018/19
Class 1 had a fabulous trip to Exmouth and the children were beautifully behaved!
Class 1 children had a great time during our Hub sports day! They all put in extra effort and enjoyed meeting friends and cousins and making new friends. Thank you to the Year 6's for their superb efforts and congratulations to those representing France who won the overall competition!
Class 1 have been celebrating Chinese New Year. Miss Harrison organised lots of interesting activities for the children, including counting and writing numerals in Chinese, using water colour paints to make fans, retelling the story of Chinese New Year using animal shadow puppets and eating noodles! The children had a great time and learnt the animal year they were born in and their lucky numbers. Kung Hei Fat Choy!
